Description
A stunning and favorite Begonia. Large, almost round leaves take on a deep maroon/red color. The plant leaves can be quite large, around 8 inches across. This is rhizomatous Begonia, meaning that the stem lays just atop the soil and mostly grows in one direction. These are shallow rooted and are best in wide shallow pots of well-draining mix. The flowers are small but numerous and pink, held on stems above the foliage in winter. This is a sport of Freddie, so there is confusion about the name sometimes, yet Red Fred has to be propagated from cuttings and not seed. Fantastic for the Begonia Collector.
